Who says the government never helps anyone?

When you look around right now, it’s easy to get depressed. You know people who have picked up pink slips. There are houses in your area that have been foreclosed and they are just sitting there like rotting teeth in your neighborhood because no-one’s buying. And what are those guys doing up When you look around right now, it’s easy to get depressed. You know people who have picked up pink slips. There are houses in your area that have been foreclosed and they are just sitting there like rotting teeth in your neighborhood because no-one’s buying. And what are those guys doing up there in Washington? Well they seem to be doing nothing that’s really going to help the ordinary people of America. They are carrying on with the same old, same old arguments. Tax cuts solve all our problems. We’ve got to spend billions to rebuild America. Like tax cuts are going to help you when you’re unemployed, and planning something to build is going to make for new work opportunities tomorrow. Well, for once, there is some good news. The Stimulus Package has hundreds of pages and thousands of plans but there’s one that might turn out to be a “good thing”. Now don’t you go holding your breath because what it says in something produced by Washington may not work out on Main Street. But let’s look on the bright side for once. This one may just pay off.

If you have the cash or access to credit or you totaled your last vehicle and the insurers paid out a fair value, you’re looking for a new car or truck. Well, hold off for a few days to see how this pans out. The Stimulus Package potentially allows you to deduct sales or excise taxes if the car you buy costs less than $49,500. If confirmed, you can take advantage of this as an above-the-line deduction so long as your personal income as a single person is less than $125,000, married couples qualify when their aggregate income is less than $250,000 - that’s most of us, right? There will be no need for you to itemize to make the claim. So exactly how much will you save? Well, those eager beaver tax experts have been burning the midnight oil so here goes with an example. Suppose your state has a sales tax of 5% and you spend $40,000 to buy a vehicle, you can deduct $2,000 from your gross income. This offer is limited in time. You have to buy between the date the bill is signed into law and December 31. The hope is this will encourage you to go buy a new car sooner rather than later. Not only will you save money but it will help Detroit as well.

So, if you do take advantage of this deal, the terms of your financing package will require a new auto insurance policy, probably with comprehensive and collision included. To get the best deal, you need to hit the online sites to get the maximum number of quotes. Remember, you’re not looking for the cheapest car insurance policy on the planet, you’re looking for the best value-for-money policy on the planet that will give you the best protection for the lowest possible premium.there in Washington? Advertise Your Property

There are a lot of do’s and don’ts with regard to running your holiday home as a business, and here are a few.

Take the trouble to find a decent agent. bad management can cause unnecessary vacancies, and worse. Disreputable managers have been known to rent property out, and pocket the proceeds.
Price your rates correctly, too little and you are selling yourself short, too much and you will not get the bookings you deserve.
Exercise extra marketing activities yourself. Obviously, tell friends and family of your holiday property, but don’t expect to get your full rate from these. Then there is an endless variety of websites with which to market your property, these will have varying degrees of success. Press advertising, articles, the list goes on.
Keep a useful events folder, with leaflets, and details of all your local attractions. This folder would also incude local restaurants, shops, taxi and local transport services.
Always keep your property clean, with necessary utencils available.
Keep a Guest Book, and encourage your renters to write down their findings, and thoughts for your property.
Have a welcome Pack ready for each of your guests as they arrive. Important things such as milk, bread, and tea or coffee, plus a little extra such as a bottle of champagne, or maybe a bottle of your local wine or produce (local being obviously cheaper).
As the weather may not always be conversive to outdoor pursuits - have books, and board games available. A video games console is good for kids. Try to have as many varied activities as possible, so as to keep most people happy.
Ensure that you have a do’s and dont’s list. In this list you can also provide instructions for everything that may need more than one brain cell to operate.
To ensure that your guests leave on a good note, you could give them a goodbye gift. This need not be expensive, just some local produce. Remember - it’s the thought that counts.
So there you have it. As you have a great property in a great location, then you cannot fail to do well. Advertise your property at Rentals365.com.

The History of Hollywood Sign

The best known sign in the world that was featured in numerous movies, pictures and became a true symbol of the whole place, the Hollywood sign has a fascinating history, which resembles a thrilling drama. And could be it any other way with the spirit dwelling in the city? From spectacular heights to complete deterioration and back, the sign is a full-living character and the biggest celebrity in Hollywood.

Designed and established as an advertising sign in 1923, the sign was intended to be temporary. The initial spelling of the sign was «Hollywoodland» and was used as an advertisement for a new housing development on Hollywood Hills. The 13-letter 50-feet high sign with powerful illumination has soon become a symbol for the whole city and its prosperous movie industry, with numerous appearances on film throughout the years.

But during the 1940’s the sign saw substantial deterioration, with the letter «H» being destroyed by a car accident and the condition of the remaining letters worsening due to the climate. The wooden and metal construction was in such a bad shape that in 1949 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce asked the City of Los Angeles to perform restoration works on the sign. The City has set strict conditions with the word «land» to be removed from the sign and the illumination to be at full expense of the Chamber. After the restoration works have been completed the sign appeared in the form as we know it now. But not for long.

The open air has continued to deteriorate the construction, which was initially intended to serve about a year for advertising purposes. After completely losing one «O» and partially - another, the sign spelled “HuLLYWO D”. Such a sight was a disgrace for many Hollywood stars and in 1978 a campaign led by the shock-rocker Alice Cooper has raised funds for restoring the sign. The old wood and metal construction was replaced with durable Australian steel letters, which were a few feet shorter than the original ones.

Find hotels in Hollywood that give you a good view on this spectacular construction.

Today the sign is a private property and has restricted access with a security system protecting it from acts of vandalism. Truly, like a movie star it stands there to be admired from the distance and giving the location its world-famous background.

Holiday travel horror show: Try to avoid sequel

You can’t talk about the worst holiday travel experiences without mentioning the movie “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”

The 1987 comedy, starring Steve Martin and John Candy, is about one frazzled business traveler’s struggle to get home in time for Thanksgiving. It’s a textbook holiday travel nightmare, featuring snowstorms, flight diversions and almost every imaginable delay.

Art has a way of imitating life. Or is it the other way around?

Perhaps how closely many of us relate with the iconic ’80s flick says something important about us. We expect to have an incredibly negative experience, whether it’s being held hostage by a blizzard or trapped in a taxi that’s taking the scenic route.

Are we smarter since “Planes,” and what does the movie’s theme say about this year’s holidays?
